Veggie Garden 2009...
Taking the time to grow food products is beneficial. It gets me out of the house - away from keyboard - spend a little time in the sun, digging in the dirt and sweating in the Sun! All worthwhile effort for anyone who is physically able and even those who aren't.
The only "craziness" about my garden is how much I plant. Transplants are cheap - what you see here only cost about $50 at the local greenhouses. Certainly there is my time involved - but we all need outdoor time. So off to the pictures to let them tell their 1000 words...
I've used raised beds of some sort since 1998. The current ones have seen their better days and will be replaced next year (probably will start this fall so soil has the winter to "cook".
For us - it's all about tomatoes! Harvest - freeze and/or can (mason jars) about 400 lbs. We use this for sauces, salsa, etc. through the winter. Usually lasting until April - when the gardening season ramps back up.
Yep - we do steamed broccali with Sunday dinner - zukes & cukes with daily salads. I usually give away the eggplant - but this year we will try "eggplant Parmesan"...
White Luminary pumpkins are kind of cool for decorations. We also have regular pumpkins.
Hot peppers anyone! The big green one will soon be orange - and for the learned - it's the hottest Habenero. The small ones are new for me this year. I saw them on the shelf at the greenhouse and figured I'd try them out... they are Tabasco.
Get out there an plant some stuff. Lettuce is easy! Peas, Beans, Peppers are easy. Tomatoes are a little bit of work - if you go to the extent I do... It's a good thing, so just do it.
