Remodel 2013

Each winter - we try to do some remodeling of our home. This may just be repainting, or it may be 'ripping out' ancient carpet in preparation for new flooring of some type.

For 2013 - the selected location in the house is our bedroom closet and with that - the bedroom. The bedroom was last painted about 10 years ago, so was long overdue for a freshening and the closet hasn't been touched since we moved here.

Here are a few photos of WIP (aka work-in-progress).

imageWhat do you find in an old house that was remodeled 30 years ago?

You never know what you will find. This Gap was found at the doorway to the closet. There is a matching one still obscured by the plywood on the bedroom side. Initial solution: spray foam to seal out any zombies.

imageCloset fully stripped, cleaned, and walls primed.

Yet to do... new wire shelving/hanger space. In general, looking for more order.

imageZiva: one of our inspectors. You don't see me... RIGHT!

Yes - when you have pets, they just have to hang around where the action is. Quickest solution is to turn on the shop vac and the noise sends them off very quickly.

Our camera quit after these photos... in fact in these photos I can see spots... I'm guessing that the camera has some moisture in the lens. It is reporting a Lens Error - the manual says to seek authorized dealer... Well, a five year old camera - low $ at that - will likely cost more to service than it's worth... so it is likely time to pick a new camera. Funny how our Canon "film" camera from 1987 still works fine. Just a little costly and frustrating to wait for developing...

More to come...

Windows 8 - Home

We are now fully installed with Windows 8 at home. Been using it on my 4 year old laptop since CTP release (about a year ago)... and this past weekend I completed the multitudes of backups, installed an SSD for primary drive and installed Windows 8 Pro on desktop.

Like it even better on desktop (also 4 years old). Quiet drive, speedy OS, and clean install means 4 years of built up stuff is now not part of OS drive. Something I've been wanting to do for a long time. I've split necessary OS/apps and data on servers for 20 years... and it is finally time to be doing that on desktops. Not just separate partition - but separate drive.

It looks like my employer will also be moving me to Windows 8 soon... I thought maybe the new machine was going to be held back to Windows 7... but today's email made it sound like they were coming with Windows 8. Yeah! No going back now... baby!!
